Here comes the bride

This weekend is my sister Jennifer’s wedding. She is marrying a wonderful man named Marc. This is her second marriage and his first. I am so excited! I am the matron of honor and my sister Sarah is the maid of honor. Connie, Steph and Kelley are all bridesmaids. Though I know it is going to be a blast it is has been a little stressful getting to this point. Not nearly as stressful as other weddings, but nonetheless stressful. The theme is a Hawaiian luau.

We had her bachelorette party last Saturday night. Took her to dinner at Shooter’s and then over to Howl at the Moon for some dueling pianos. A few of the girls bitched about money, cover charges, etc. This really pissed me off. Felt like telling them to go home. If they didn’t have the money, why did they attend? Anyway, I was able to shield most of this from my Sister as I didn’t want her shitty friends to ruin her good time. Mind you, these are not great friends, but friends. We ended up at the Velvet Dog on the upstairs deck. It was awesome. I reserved 3 hotel rooms at the Wyndham so that no one had to drive home. We needed two as a couple people bailed. Oh – and they left their valet parked car ($22 on my bill) and asked my sister Sarah to drive it home on Sunday.

I ordered my dress from lavahut.com. It is a really cool dress. We actually all decided to get the same dress, but in a different Hawaiian print. They talked me into ordering a large. I need a medium. So, last week I placed another order for a medium. Just received notification that it shipped yesterday……from Hawaii. FUCK. Tonight I will spend trying to shrink the large. It isn’t huge, but definitely can tell it is too big. Also need to find shoes. We are all supposed to wear flip flops. Not like shower shoes, a little dressier, but no formal shoes. Yeah, I can’t find any I like. I think I see a bottle of Cabernet in my future.

I am pumped because my cousin CHRIS (totally not mentioning you just because you threatened to turn me into the NAACP if I didn’t) is coming in from Rochester, NY. He is the male version of me and we always have a blast, and get into trouble, when we are together. We should be well under control this weekend though as my husband, his fiancé and his mother will be there to make sure our fun doesn’t get too out of hand. Hey – let’s work on our Buttercup routine! Chris is our D.J. for the reception. Dave Matthews….play some Dave Matthews.

Also, going to be great to see lots of other out of town family that I don’t get to see that often. I will post lots of pictures of everyone next week. Unfortunately neither of my stepchildren will be there and that sucks ass, but David is having surgery and Jen has another wedding to attend of friends she has had for a l o n g time. Still makes me sad though and they will be missed. Unfortunately Rach won’t be there either as she is Jen’s date for the other wedding, but the Storks will be there and that rocks!

My best friend Tammy is performing the ceremony so that is really cool. Nice to have a friend of the family instead of some random person. I even helped write the ceremony on Tuesday and that makes it even more special.

I think that is everything for now. Will let you know how it all goes. Also, I’m only working ½ day tomorrow due to wedding prep so you guys will have to keep Lo Lo entertained!

Hugs and kisses to all.

Can't wait to meet your cousin Chris. I know you've mentioned how much fun you have with him in the past.

BTW Chris, PLEASE NO DMB!!!! You can't dance to his $hit! Sorry Mel! LY! MI! :)

Also looking forward to another tropical wedding. Brings back fond memories of my own. :)

I had a great time last weekend. Wish I made it downtown more often. I still have a few pics to send you. Not too many, as the camera settings were off though.

BTW-I found 2 free admission coupons to Howl at the Moon sitting on a ledge as Melissa, Rach, and I were going in, and the guy let all 3 of us go. So, we didn't have to pay the cover. Not that it would've bothered us to pay it though. :)

That was pretty shday of them to leave that car & charge it to the room. Whatever!

I know Jen, just being selfish and wanting more of you :-)

Sue - you will love Chris. He is a riot. And stop hatin' on DMB - they can be the slow dance songs :-)

We will have to plan another ladies night in downtown soon. It was so much fun! My sister had an incredible time.

I paid the cover for three of the little jerks running their mouths about cover charges. Seems that had money for beer, and bad eye shadow though.

Hey Melly. It is really cool. They are having a pig roast and a very casual fun reception at my Mom's house. My Sister is wearing a white Hawaiian dress and it is gorgeous.

I love weddings, so I'll be there. Deciding on what dress I should wear. Oh! and EFF DMB. Sorry, I'll be requesting some "Dirty Dancing" Music. You down Mel? Rach couldn't hang with the Storkness lastnight.

hey stork, pretty sure your wife, the groom and rachel have to play ball the next day...try to avoid any dancing that may initiate rain, okay? (unless they have no desire to play, in which case, dance away my friend!).

Sometimes dry cleaners have a tailor on staff who can make emergency alterations. Maybe they can take the dress in a little for you?

I wish I could mail you my sandals. They have a little heel, are ever-so-slightly dressy, but are the most comfortable sandals I have ever owned.

    Anyway, have fun!

Will you be eating a big roasting pig?

Crap... my internet is not working, and it just deleted my comment.. I was wondering if you had to pay for the extra room that you didn't use?

  • At August 18, 2005 1:11 PM, Blogger Melanie was here said…

Yep. Paid for 3 rooms. We ended up putting my sister Sarah in the extra room as she is pregnant and of course was sober. That way us drunks didn't bother her!

Thanks Anon, for the back-handed compliment!

Oh...the honor, the privilege, the downright giddiness I feel at finally being mentioned. Look Mom, top of the world! I finally made it!! I think I may have wet myself at the sheer joy I am feeling right now, at this very moment. Pity it almost took legal action and a Rochester-sponsored "March On Mentor" (or whatever hick town you live in) to be recognized. But what's done is done. It's water under the bridge, or over the dam, or however that saying goes. Don't forget who's been kicking your skinny a** for the past 34 years, and will resume doing so in about 24 hours!

And to all potential wedding attendees - rest assured there will be NO crappy, nasal, unintelligble DMB at this wedding. Not as long as I am the DJ. I'm leaning more towards the Barry Manilow/Tom Jones/Air Supply vibe, with perhaps a splash of Captain and Tennille and just a hint of Wayne "Mr. Las Vegas" Newton. Sweet! I'm pumping some Copacabana in my office as we speak - the man is true genius!! :)

Can't wait to see you Slim. And all the haters can try to stop us if they want, but you know we're still gonna party like it's 1999 baby!!
